Girls in Latin America are increasingly becoming victims of cyberbullying
According to a study published on Monday by the Plan International organisation, fifty-eight percent of Latin American girls have been victims of cyberbullying at some time in their lives, according to a study published on Monday by the Plan International organization, whose regional office is in Panama City.
Gender violence, whose figures increased drastically during the health emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic due to the lock-downs and social confinements decreed to counteract the progress of the pandemic, was also added to a study.
According to the research conducted last year, 59 percent of bullied children and young women assured that abusive and insulting language is the most common kind of attack. In comparison, 50 percent recognized that currently, cases of online persecution exceed those registered on the streets.
The girls pointed out that Facebook 39%is the digital platform where most attacks occur, followed by Instagram 23%, WhatsApp 14%, Snapchat, 10%Twitter 9%and TikTok 6%.
According to Plan International, this situation forced the victims to live longer with their aggressors, which deteriorated the levels of protection in many cases due to the lack of access to complaint mechanisms and the loss of social ties.
