Guyana & India sign air services agreement
It’s now possible for airlines to operate commercial flights between Guyana and India as the two countries signed an air services agreement yesterday.
The agreement was signed by Guyanese Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, and Indian High Commissioner to Georgetown, Dr K.J Srinivasa. It was witnessed by Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, and India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is on a diplomatic visit to Guyana.
Guyana’s Department of Public Information said the agreement addresses matters about the grant of rights, designation and authorisation of airlines, revocation or suspension of an operating authorisation, principles governing the operation of agreed services, application of laws, user charges, customs duties and charges, aviation safety, aviation security, commercial opportunities, and cooperative marketing arrangements, among other matters.
Guyana has signed over 50 Air Service Agreements with other International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) states.
