Jay-Z calls out the Grammys for never giving Beyonce Album of the Year
Rapper Jay-Z used his acceptance speech for the Dr Dre Global Impact Award at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday to berate the academy for snubbing his wife, Beyonce, on several occasions.
He considers it an injustice that she has never won album of the year despite her astonishing haul of Grammys.
“When I get nervous,” he said, “I tell the truth.”
"She has more Grammys than anyone, but she's never won Album of the Year," he said, as Beyonce watched.
“Think about that: The most Grammys. Never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work. Some of you may go home and feel like you been robbed. Some of you might be robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category.”
Jay-Z also proved he has a long memory.
He recalled the times that rap artistes were outspoken about not getting enough attention from the Grammys commensurate with music sales, even boycotting a show — although “they went to a hotel to watch the Grammys,” he said.
"It wasn't a great boycott,” Jay-Z said.
