Members of PM Browne's slimmed down cabinet sworn in
Members of Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s new and much smaller cabinet have taken their oaths of office.
The cabinet comprises eight ministers, six less than the pre-election cabinet.
Sir Robin Yearwood, who won the St Phillip North seat for a record 11th term on Wednesday, will not return to the cabinet.
He was the Minister of Energy, Civil Aviation & Transportation.
The cabinet appointments are:
Gaston Browne —Prime Minister and Minister Finance, Corporate Governance and Public-Private Partnerships
Steadroy Benjamin —Attorney General, Minister of Legal Affairs, Public Safety and Labour
Molwyn Morgorson Joseph— Minister of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and The Environment.
Everly Paul Chet Greene — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Trade Immigration and Barbuda Affairs.
Daryl Matthew — Minister of Education, Creative Industries and Sports.
Maria Browne — Minister of Housing, Works, Land and Urban Renewal.
Charles “Max” Fernandez — Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, ministers welcomed their new and expanded roles.
Greene said he felt “honoured” to be entrusted with the responsibilities of the Ministry of Agriculture. He took over the ministry from Samantha Marshall, who was defeated in Wednesday's general election.
“I will use the ministry of foreign affairs to leverage the support for agriculture. So friendly countries with strong agriculture portfolios and platforms, we will be engaging them to see how best we can build out our agriculture sector in Antigua and Barbuda,” he stated in an interview with state broadcaster ABS.
Greene said he would meet with stakeholders to craft a policy document to take the country’s agriculture and fisheries sector forward.
