No one must be left behind, says Opposition Leader of Grenada
Grenada's Opposition leader Dr Keith Micthell on the 49th anniversary of Grenada’s Independence, says as the island forges toward 50, no one must be left behind.
Mitchell stated this in his Independence Day message as he highlighted that as Grenada continues to navigate through a post-COVID world along with unprecedented events unfolding the world over in the recent past, the poor and vulnerable population in Grenada has been hit hardest.
The Opposition leader said many in Grenada had lost their jobs; many were unable to access support. Most recently, the country has seen the social protection afforded to those most vulnerable in the Grenadian community drastically weakened and, in some cases, removed.
Mitchell stated: “There is no doubt that this is yet another economically challenging time in our development. But now more than ever, we must do what is necessary, what we must, and be our brothers’ keeper, for ours is a history of love for our people. As we forge ahead to 50, no one must be left behind”.
However, the Opposition leader stated Grenada, on this 49th anniversary of Independence, has much to be proud of.
Mitchell said the contributions and achievements of Grenadians in areas such as sports, culture, academia, and diplomacy are well documented locally, regionally, and internationally.
So too, are Grenada’s economic development gains and trademark resilience as a people.
He added that the country had recorded significant progress over the last four decades. Mitchell further stated that Grenada must continuously set its sights on overcoming the adversities that threaten to derail its development agenda and urged one and all to embrace unity as the beacon that will succeed the country towards sustainable development.
