Rising star Joby Jay ‘BARE’s it all on first single off upcoming debut
Rising singer and songwriter Joby Jay has released the first single off her upcoming Love Levels EP.
The lead track, BARE, as the name suggests is an ode to what Jay describes as ‘the rawest form of love’ and delivered in Joby’s usual style; an eclectic blend of Jazz, Reggae, and Soul, backed by her powerful vocals.
BARE is co-written with Mario Spencer and produced by Island.WAV (credited with their work on tracks by Rytikal, Charly Black, Popcaan, and more).
It is the ‘first taste’ of Joby’s highly anticipated debut EP; which is a seven-track lesson on love in all its forms.
Bare is a song about someone loving you in your rawest, most genuine form. It's about being loved by someone who sees you, flaws and all, and still chooses to love you fully.” Joby said.
“I want Bare to put people in their feelings. It’s a groovy, sensual love song that people will want to listen to over and over again.”
BARE came about while Joby observed herself in an au naturel before an event; she realised how much she really appreciated herself in that state.
She knew then and there that she wanted to compose a song that celebrated that state of being. It’s delivered in a ballad style with layered harmonies; it’s mellow yet upbeat in some parts with subtle hints at the more sensual nature of love.
“I wanted it to be a sexy song, even though it doesn’t mention sex. Love is sexy and I wanted that to be translated,” she said.
Love Levels is a personal diary detailing Joby’s own experiences and revelation with (and about) love.
It speaks to the varying ‘levels’ one can attain when exposed to the lessons that love can teach.
“The beauty that comes from vulnerability and shared experiences is something I continuously find interest in,” Joby explains.
“My love experiences, both platonic and romantic, have taught me so much about people and in turn, so much about myself.”
Joby is fresh off the Lost In Time Festival held by 2x Grammy-nominated artiste Protoje and is preparing for this year’s staging of the Earth Hour concert.
BARE is out now across all DSPs with powerful visuals to follow in early April.
