Sint Maarten’s preliminary results of 2024 Parliamentary Election
The National Alliance political party led by Silveria Jacobs, garnered the most votes in Thursday's 2024 Parliamentary Election and according to the preliminary party results has been allocated four out of the 15 seats in the Parliament.
Eight seats are needed to form a majority.
Nathalie Tackling, Chairperson of the Central Voting Bureau, in a media conference following the counting of ballots, announced that she informed the Governor of the final preliminary of the election. She shared the initial seat allocation as calculated:
National Opportunity Wealth - 2 seats
Empire Culture Empowerment Association- 0 seats
United People Party- 3 seats
Party For Progress-2 seats
United Sint Maarten Party – 0 seats
Unified Resilient Sint Maarten Movement- 2 seats
National Alliance- 4 seats
Democratic Party- 2 seats
Tackling said these results are preliminary and subject to verification and potential objections. She noted in the coming days the Central Voting Bureau will be carefully reviewing the packages from all 20 polling stations with the tally sheets to verify and ensure the accuracy in preparation for the Bureau’s public meeting scheduled for this Tuesday. During this meeting she said any eligible voter will have the opportunity to file an objection if deemed necessary.
Tackling said the final outcome of the results will be determined after a thorough review process. Based on the review and weighing the merits of any possible objections that may be filed, a decision will be made by the Central Voting Bureau.
This election there were 22,533 persons registered to vote, with preliminary figures showing that 14,678 persons exercised their right to vote, a turnout rate of 65.08 per cent.
The official election figures will be released during the week.
