TCI top cop appeals for public help to solve recent murders
Police Commissioner Trevor Botting has issued a public appeal for assistance to solve the seven murders on the Turks and Caicos Islands this year.
In an address on Wednesday, the top cop urged islanders to work with the police similarly to what occurred in 2022 when they provided information that led to several criminals being arrested and charged.
“We need your help, and you can do this anonymously through crime stoppers or by talking to my dedicated team of trusted officers who work covertly and discreetly in handling information. We want you to tell us what you know to help us get Justice for those victims who have lost their lives. With your help, we can make a difference within our communities”.
Botting revealed five of the seven murders are connected to gang activity.
He said the police force would continue with their efforts to stem the tide of criminality in the British Overseas Territory.
Some anti-crime efforts include recruiting nine experienced officers from across the Caribbean to increase capacity in the Tactical Unit. The officers are expected to arrive on the island this week.
Additionally, 18 officers, who will complete their initial training next week in The Bahamas, will be on the streets of the TCI shortly after their return home.
“Operation Pursuit will continue relentlessly, targeting criminals and criminality, including those involved in the organised crime of smuggling people, guns, and drugs. This is a multi-agency operation, and through working together, we are united against crime and criminality. I urge that you, our community, support the law enforcement efforts on the TCI. The focus of Operation Pursuit will be on serious crime and chasing down those responsible for the shootings and murders,” the top cop stated.
