Two bikers killed on the Oxford main road in St Elizabeth Jamaica
Two motorcyclists were killed last evening in a fiery crash on the Oxford Main Road in St Elizabeth.
They have been identified as 22-year-old Jason Taylor, a labourer of Brompton District, and 33-year-old Jason Salmon, a labourer of Oxford District.
It is reported that at about 6:30 p.m., Taylor was driving a Cobra motorcycle towards Santa Cruz when he overtook a motorcar and collided with Salmon.
Salmon was driving his Hirev motorcycle in the opposite direction.
Further reports are that Salmon was headed towards Black River, while Taylor overtook a motor vehicle before colliding into Salmon's motorcycle.
More than 140 people have been killed in motor vehicle crashes across Jamaica since the start of the year.
The motorcycles caught fire on impact. The police said no registration plates were affixed to the motorcycles.
Both men received multiple injuries and were taken to Black River Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Black River police are investigating the incident.
Up to Monday, April 26, of the 140 victims since the start of the year, 46 were motorcyclists, 28 were pedestrians, 10 pedal cyclists, 17 passengers of private motor vehicles, two were passengers of commercial motor vehicles, six were passengers of public passenger motor vehicles, one was a pillion passenger, one was the driver of a commercial motor vehicle, and 29 were drivers of private motor vehicles, according to the Road Safety Unit which is located within the Ministry of Transport and Mining.
