USVI: Florida man arrested for alleged drug trafficking
A Florida man was detained in the US Virgin Islands after marijuana was allegedly found in his checked luggage on January 6 at the Cyril E King International Airport.
Cameron J Rolle appeared before a Virgin Islands Superior Court judge yesterday for his advice of rights hearing.
The judge ordered that his driver’s license be seized and set bail at US$7,500.
After prosecutors argued that he might not attend his hearings, the court denied a motion to return to his home in Orlando, Florida. He has the option to file a formal motion to leave the jurisdiction.
Prosecutors allege Rolle arrived in St Thomas on a Spirit Airlines flight from Orlando with 7.33 kilograms of marijuana in his possession.
USVI Attorney General Denise George said the drug seizure results from a collaborative effort of the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Criminal Investigations Bureau, Special Agents from the Virgin Islands Department of Justice, and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
